ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The seven-year itch

The seven-year itch is a phrase that people use to describe when a couple, after being together for seven years, may start to feel restless or dissatisfied with their relationship. It doesn't necessarily mean that they want to end their relationship, but they may start to look for something new or exciting.

Think of it like this: you have a favorite toy that you've loved playing with every day for seven years. But after a while, you might start to get bored with it and want to try playing with something else. It's the same thing with relationships. After being with the same person for a long time, you might start to feel like you want to experience something new.

However, just like with your favorite toy, you might realize that you don't actually want to get rid of it, and you might find a way to make it fun again by trying something new or different. In the same way, couples can work on their relationship, try new things together, and rediscover what made them fall in love in the first place.

The seven-year itch isn't a guarantee that a relationship will end, but it's important for couples to recognize and talk about their feelings and work together to keep their relationship strong and happy.
