ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

URL normalization

URL normalization means making sure that all web addresses or URLs follow a standard format. This is important because sometimes URLs can be written in different ways - for example, using upper or lower case letters, or adding unnecessary bits to the end of a URL. This can cause confusion for computers and make it harder for them to find the right web pages.

So, just like how grown-ups sometimes have to make sure their handwriting is neat and tidy, computers need to make sure URLs are uniform and standard so that they can work properly. Normalization ensures that URLs are consistent and easy for the computer to read and understand. This helps the computer to quickly find the right web page and display it for us to see.
