ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Voice over WLAN

Imagine you're playing with your friends in the backyard and you want to tell them something really important. But instead of shouting and having to run over to each of them, you have a magical microphone that lets you talk to them from anywhere in the yard! That's kind of how Voice over WLAN works.

Now, instead of a backyard, imagine a really big building - like a school or a hospital. Inside, there are lots of people using their phones or gadgets to talk to each other. However, sometimes it can be really hard to hear each other or find a good spot to make a phone call. That's where Voice over WLAN comes in!

Voice over WLAN is a special technology that lets you make phone calls over the same Wi-Fi network that you use for browsing the internet. So, instead of relying on a cellular network or a landline, you can use your phone to connect to the Wi-Fi and make a call. This works especially well in places where there is poor cellular coverage or where lots of people are trying to use their phones at the same time.

But, what about audio quality, you may ask? With Voice over WLAN, the audio quality can be really good if the Wi-Fi network is strong and there isn't too much interference. It's kind of like talking on the phone, but instead of hearing echoes or static, you will hear a clear voice.

So, there you have it! Voice over WLAN is a way to make phone calls over Wi-Fi instead of cellular networks or landlines, making it easier to connect with people even in places where signals are weak.
