ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

phishing

Phishing is when someone tries to get information from you, like your passwords or your credit card number, by pretending to be someone they are not. They do this by sending you an email, message, or website that looks like it is from someone you trust, like your bank or a business you have bought from. When you give them the information they asked for, they can use it in a way that you did not want them to. To protect yourself from phishing scams, never give out personal information without double checking that the request is coming from a real source.
