ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

what's the origin of life?

Life on Earth started billions of years ago. Scientists aren't quite sure exactly how it happened, but one popular theory is that life started when the things around us (like water, chemicals and energy from the Sun) formed together to create what scientists call the "primordial soup." In the soup, tiny molecules began to bump into each other, giving off more energy and creating bigger molecules. These molecules started to work together and eventually formed the first living things.
