why is the ocean water salty

The ocean water is salty because it is filled with lots of dissolved salts called "minerals" that come from rocks. These minerals are often found near the ground or even in the ocean floor. When it rains, some of the water will dissolve the minerals and mix them into the ocean water. This is why the ocean water tastes salty - because it is filled with the dissolved minerals.
