ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Īhām

Okay, so imagine you have a toy car, and you really like playing with it. But sometimes, when you're playing, you might forget that it's just a toy car and start to feel like it's a real car. That's kind of like what īhām is.

Īhām is a word that comes from Arabic, and it means something like "delusion" or "mistake." In the Quran, it's used to talk about when people make a mistake in their thinking about God. They might forget that God is different from us and start to think of God as being like a person or an object.

So, just like when you play with your toy car and forget that it's not a real car, people might forget that God is not like us and start to think of God in the wrong way. This is called īhām, and it's something that Muslims try to avoid by remembering that God is different from anything in this world.
