ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Μ-law algorithm

The μ-law algorithm is a way for computers to convert sound waves into digital information. Sound waves are made of vibrations that our ears can hear. To turn these sound waves into something digital, the computer has to measure their strength in a very tiny amount of time. The μ-law algorithm measures the strength of the sound waves and turns them into numbers that the computer can understand. The computer then uses these numbers to recreate the sound waves. With this algorithm, computers can make accurate copies of sounds that we can hear.
