ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

-desh

Hi again!

Today we're going to learn about "-desh".

You know how sometimes when you talk to people, they might say they're from a certain place like "India" or "United States"? Well, sometimes there are words that people use at the end of a place name to describe it even more specifically.

One of those words is "-desh", and it comes from a language called Hindi. When people add "-desh" at the end of a place name, it means "country" or "land of".

So, for example, "Bangladesh" means "land of the Bengalis" because that's where a group of people called the Bengalis live. "Afghanistan" means "land of the Afghans" because that's where the Afghan people come from.

Adding "-desh" helps people understand more about where someone is from or what a place is like. It's like a little clue or hint!

So when you hear a place name that ends with "-desh", you know that it's a country or place with a particular group of people or culture. Cool, huh?
