1 Samuel

Okay kiddo, 1 Samuel is a book in the Bible that tells a story about a man named Samuel and some other people who lived a long time ago. The story starts with a woman named Hannah who couldn't have a baby and she went to the temple to pray to God for one. She promised to give the baby back to God if He would give her one.

Eventually, God answered Hannah’s prayer and she had a son named Samuel. She kept her promise and gave him to the priest to serve in the temple. Samuel grew up to be a wise man who helped lead Israel, the country where he lived.

Later on in the story, the people of Israel asked God for a king to rule over them, like other countries had. God decided to give them a king and Samuel went to find him. His name was Saul and he became the first king of Israel.

Saul was afraid of a group of people called the Philistines who were attacking Israel. Samuel told Saul to wait for him at the temple and when he came, he would offer a sacrifice to God for guidance. Saul was impatient and offered the sacrifice himself, which was something only the priest was supposed to do.

This made God angry with Saul and he decided to choose a new king to replace him. The new king was a young man named David, who was a shepherd. David was very brave and even fought a giant named Goliath and won!

David became the king after Saul died, and he was a good king who loved God. There were many ups and downs in his life, but he continued to trust and follow God throughout it all.

So, 1 Samuel tells the story of Samuel, Saul, and David, and how their lives were shaped by God's plan.
