ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

10-second barrier

Imagine you are running in a race, and you want to be the fastest runner in the world. For many years, people have been trying to run 100 meters in less than 10 seconds, which is called the 10-second barrier.

Running really fast for such a short distance may seem easy, but it is actually very difficult. You need to have strong, fast legs, good technique, and lots of training.

Many athletes have come very close to breaking the 10-second barrier, but it took a long time for someone to actually do it. In fact, it wasn't until 1968 that anyone ran 100 meters in under 10 seconds.

Since then, more and more people have broken the 10-second barrier, but it is still a very challenging goal. Only a few runners in the world have ever done it, and they are considered some of the fastest people in history.

So, the 10-second barrier is like a big challenge that runners try to overcome by running 100 meters really fast. And if they can do it in under 10 seconds, they are considered one of the fastest runners in the world!
