1776 in the United States

In 1776, the people in the United States (13 colonies at the time) decided that they wanted to be an independent country and not be ruled by the King of England anymore. They wrote a document called the Declaration of Independence which said that the United States was an independent country and did not answer to the King anymore. This is why 1776 is an important year in American history.
