1934 Bulgarian coup d'état

Okay kiddo, so in 1934 there was a big change in Bulgaria's government that we call a "coup d'état." This is when some people who want to take over the government plan and carry out a sudden and sometimes violent takeover.

In Bulgaria, there were some politicians, military leaders, and others who didn't like the way the government was being run. They thought the king, Boris III, had too much power and that the democratic system wasn't working well.

So, these people got together and decided to take over the government. They made a plan to get rid of some of the politicians and make sure the army was on their side. Then, on the night of May 19th, they carried out their plan.

The military surrounded the parliament building and other key places in the capital city of Sofia. The Prime Minister, who was the head of the government, was arrested. The king was forced to give up some of his power, and a new government was put in place.

Not everyone was happy about this, though. Some people were upset that the democratic government was being replaced by a more authoritarian one. And some people didn't like the way the new government treated certain groups of people, like Jews and communists.

So, that's what we mean when we talk about the 1934 Bulgarian coup d'état. It was a big change in the government that happened suddenly and with force, and it had a big impact on the country and its people.
