In 1934, a law called the Turkish Resettlement Law was passed in Turkey. This law required some Turkish people to move from their homes in the east of the country to the west. This was because the Turkish government wanted to create a new country of Turkey which was more unified and less divided. The government hoped that people living in different areas of the country would get to know each other better if they all lived in the same place. This way, people in Turkey could learn to work together better. So, the government made everyone who had to move do it so everyone could be closer to each other and make the country stronger.
