ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

1950s in Indian fashion

Okay kiddo, so back in the 1950s, people in India used to wear clothes that were very different from what we wear nowadays. People used to wear a long piece of cloth called a saree, which women draped around their bodies and men used to wear a dhoti, which was a long piece of cloth tied around the waist and legs.

The saree was usually made of cotton or silk, and it had a lot of beautiful designs and patterns on it. Women also used to wear a blouse on top of the saree and sometimes a piece of cloth called a dupatta over their heads.

For men, the dhoti was usually plain white or cream-colored, and it was worn with a shirt or a kurta. Kurta is a loose-fitting shirt that is worn with pajama or dhoti.

People used to wear a lot of accessories too. Women used to wear bangles and earrings, and men used to wear a turban on their heads.

Overall, the fashion in the 1950s in India was very traditional and people used to wear clothes that were comfortable to wear in the hot and humid climate. Even though the fashion has changed a lot since then, some people still wear these traditional clothes on special occasions, like weddings or festivals.
