1967 Newark riots

Okay kiddo, so there was a big uproar in Newark in 1967. It happened because people were feeling very angry and upset about a lot of things.

One of the main reasons was because there had been a lot of discrimination and unequal treatment towards black people. They were often not allowed to live in certain areas of the city, were not given good jobs, and were treated unfairly by the police.

One day, a black cab driver was stopped by the police and he got hurt during the stop. This made people very angry, and they started to protest. The protests turned violent and people started breaking windows, looting stores, and setting fires.

The police were called to try and stop the rioting, but they were also met with violence. The National Guard was called in to help, and they used tanks and other weapons to try and restore order.

The rioting went on for several days, and many people were hurt, arrested, or killed. The community was left in shambles, with many buildings destroyed and people feeling even more hopeless than before.

It was a really sad time in Newark's history, and it showed how important it is to treat all people fairly and to listen to their concerns.
