ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

1980s in music

Hey kiddo, let me tell you about music in the 1980s! It was a time when people dressed up in bright, colorful clothes and danced to catchy, poppy tunes.

There were these cool things called "mix tapes" which were cassette tapes that you could record your own favorite songs onto. They were a great way to share music with your friends or make a special playlist for someone you liked.

One of the most popular genres of music in the 80s was called "new wave". It was all about synthesizers and electronic beats. Bands like Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, and The Human League were some of the biggest names in new wave.

Another popular genre was called "hair metal". Bands like Bon Jovi and Poison had huge hair, wore leather jackets, and sang about love and partying.

But it wasn't just pop music that was big in the 80s. Hip hop was just starting to become popular, with artists like Run DMC and LL Cool J making a name for themselves. And rock bands like U2 and Guns N' Roses were also huge from the late 80s onwards.

Overall, the 80s was a really fun time for music. Even today, many of the songs from that decade are still played on the radio or are covered by modern artists. It's definitely worth checking out some of the classics!
