1987 Tunisian coup d'état

In 1987, there was a big change that happened in the government of Tunisia. The person who was in charge of the government at that time was called a president, and his name was Habib Bourguiba. But there was another guy named Zine El Abidine Ben Ali who didn’t like how Bourguiba was running the country.

One day, Ben Ali and some other people got together and decided they were going to try and take control of the government. So, they went to Bourguiba and basically kicked him out, saying he was too sick and not able to do his job anymore.

Ben Ali became the new president of Tunisia. Some people were happy about this change, but others were not. There was a lot of protesting and fighting, but eventually, Ben Ali was able to keep control of the government.

So basically, the 1987 Tunisian coup d'état was when a group of people decided to overthrow the person in charge of the government and put someone else in charge instead. It was a big change for the country of Tunisia, and some people liked it, while others did not.
