1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre

In 1989, a lot of people in a country called China were very upset and went to a big open place called Tiananmen Square to tell their government how they felt. They wanted more freedom to do and say what they wanted, and they didn't like the government's strict rules about everything. The people stayed at Tiananmen Square for a while, even though the government didn't like it.

One day, the government got really angry and sent lots of soldiers and tanks to Tiananmen Square to force the people to leave. The soldiers had guns, and they shot at the people who wouldn't leave. This was very dangerous and many people were hurt.

The government didn't want anyone to talk about what happened, and they arrested or hurt the people who tried to tell others. This made the whole world very sad and worried about what was happening in China.

Since then, people have been talking about the Tiananmen Square protests and massacre, and many still hope that the people in China will one day have the freedom to express themselves and be heard without fear of harm.
