ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

1991 anti-Serb riot in Zadar

Okay kiddo, I'm going to explain something that happened a long time ago in a place called Zadar. Zadar is a city in a country called Croatia, and back in 1991, there was a big argument between different groups of people who live there.

Some of the people who lived in Zadar were called Serbs, and some of the other people who lived there were called Croats. The Serbs and the Croats had different ideas about how their city and their country should be run, and they didn't always get along very well.

One day in 1991, something happened that made things even worse. Some people who were very angry about the situation went into the streets and started shouting and throwing rocks at buildings. This is called a riot, and it can be very dangerous and scary.

The rioters were mostly Croats, and they were angry with the Serbs because they thought the Serbs were trying to take over their city. They burned down some buildings and destroyed some shops that belonged to Serbs.

This made the situation in Zadar even more tense and difficult, and it took a long time for things to calm down. Eventually, after many years of fighting and arguing, the people of Zadar were able to find a way to live together peacefully.

It's important for us to remember what happened in Zadar and to learn from it, so that we can try to avoid these kinds of conflicts in the future. We should always try to find ways to work together and understand each other, even when we disagree.
