2-Propanol

Okay kiddo, let me tell you all about 2-propanol.

2-propanol is also called isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol. It is a type of alcohol that is often used as a disinfectant to clean wounds on your skin.

Do you remember when your mom or dad cleaned your boo-boos with alcohol? That was probably isopropyl alcohol or 2-propanol.

But it's not just for cleaning wounds, 2-propanol is also used to clean things like electronics, computer parts, and even jewelry.

But why is it called 2-propanol? Well, it's actually a chemical name that tells us how the molecules are made. You see, it has three carbon atoms with an OH group (like a little hook) hanging off the second carbon atom. That's why it’s called 2-propanol.

And you know what's neat about 2-propanol? It evaporates really quickly because it's a liquid that easily turns into a gas when exposed to air. This makes it really useful for cleaning things because it doesn't leave any liquid behind to damage the object being cleaned.

So next time you see a bottle of rubbing alcohol in your cupboard or at the store, remember that it's also known as 2-propanol and it has a special power to clean and disinfect things.
