In 2006, there was a really important election in Texas. Sort of like in school when you and your friends vote for who you want to be the class president, but this time it was for the whole state.
The people in Texas had to choose who they wanted to be the leader of their state, also called the governor. There were a few different people running for governor, but the two main ones were named Rick Perry and Chris Bell.
Rick Perry was already the governor of Texas at the time and was trying to be re-elected. Chris Bell was a lawyer and a politician and he wanted to be the new governor instead.
A lot of people were really involved in the election and they talked about the things they were worried about or wanted to change in Texas. Some people wanted things like better schools or more jobs, and other people wanted things like better healthcare or to protect the environment.
But even though a lot of people were talking about the election and thinking about who to vote for, not everyone went to vote on election day. In the end, Rick Perry got the most votes and stayed as the governor of Texas for another few years.
