The European migrant crisis started in 2015 when a lot of people from other countries— mostly Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan— started to come to Europe looking for safety. Because of wars in their own countries, they left their homes and families and traveled in boats, cars, and trucks to get to Europe. They went to countries like Germany, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom to start a new life where they can be safe, but it has been hard for them because so many people came at once and it overwhelms the European countries to take care of them. They need more food, shelter, and jobs, so lots of people volunteer to help.
