2016 Turkish coup d'état attempt

Okay kiddo, so in 2016, a group of people in Turkey - who were part of the army - tried to take control of the government in a very bad way. They wanted to do this because they didn't like the person who was in charge, and they wanted to be in charge instead. This is called a coup d'état.

But this was very wrong because it's not okay to try and take over a government like that. The leader of Turkey - who is called the President - disagreed with them and said that they could not take over like that. So there was a big fight between the people who wanted to take over and the people who wanted the President to still be in charge.

Many people died and many people were hurt during this fight. But in the end, the President of Turkey won and stayed in charge. The people who tried to take over were punished for what they did. It was a very scary time for Turkey, and we hope it never happens again.
