ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

2018 New Year Honours (Canada)

Every year, Canada likes to celebrate and honour people who have done really amazing things. These people have made our country better in some way, like by being really kind, or helping others, or working hard to make a difference.

In 2018, the government decided to pick some very special people who did great things and give them awards. An award is like a present, but it's not something you can buy in a store. Instead, it's something that shows how much people appreciate the good things you've done.

These awards are called New Year Honours, and they can come in different types. Some people might get a medal or a trophy, for example, while others might be given a fancy title like "Knight" or "Dame". It's like being in a really special club, where you get to be recognized for all your hard work and accomplishments.

So, in 2018, a bunch of people from all across Canada were given these New Year Honours. Some of them were doctors and nurses who helped sick people, while others were scientists who found new ways to make our lives better. Some were artists who made beautiful things that made people feel happy, and others were ordinary people who did amazing things without anyone even knowing.

But no matter who they were or what they did, one thing was for sure: everyone who received a New Year Honour in 2018 had done something truly amazing, and the whole country was so proud of them!
