ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

3 GB barrier

The 3GB barrier is a limit on how much RAM, or random access memory, a computer can use. Random access memory (RAM) is the type of memory that a computer uses to store things like website information, text, and pictures.

The 3GB barrier is like a wall that prevents computers from using more than 3 gigabytes, or 3 billion bytes, of RAM. This limit does not mean that computers can have only 3GB of RAM installed; it just means that the computer can use only 3GB of RAM at any one time. Any RAM above 3GB is not used.

By limiting the amount of RAM a computer can use, the 3GB barrier can help make sure that computers don't run out of memory when they are trying to perform tasks. When computers don't have enough memory, they can start to slow down and perform less efficiently.
