ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

343-line television system

Okay kiddo, so back in the old days, people used to watch TV using something called a 343-line television system. That might sound like a lot of lines, but basically it just means that the picture on the TV was made up of tiny little lines.

Think of it like coloring in a picture with a lot of small squares. Each line was like one of those small squares, and when you put them all together, they made up the whole picture.

Now, the reason why the number 343 was used is because that's how many lines were needed to create a clear enough picture on the TV screen.

But here's the thing - as technology got better, people were able to make TVs with more lines. Nowadays, most TVs have at least 1080 lines, which makes for a much clearer and sharper picture.

So while the 343-line television system was pretty cool back in the day, we've come a long way since then!
