ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

375-line television system

Have you ever watched a movie or TV show and noticed how clear and detailed the picture is? That's because of the technology used to create the picture on your screen. But a long time ago, there was a different kind of technology used to create TV pictures, and it wasn't as clear or detailed as what we have now.

The 375-line television system was one of those older technologies. To understand it, you have to know that a TV picture is made up of tiny little dots called pixels. The more pixels there are, the clearer and sharper the picture will be.

In the 375-line television system, the picture was made up of only 375 lines of pixels. This might sound like a lot, but compared to the high-definition TV pictures we have now, it's not very many at all.

Because there were so few lines, the picture wasn't very clear or detailed. It could also be kind of fuzzy or blurry sometimes. But back when this technology was used, it was still really exciting to be able to see moving pictures on your TV at all!

So, while the 375-line television system might seem outdated now, it was an important stepping stone in the development of the TV technology we have today.
