4-poster

A 4-poster is a special kind of bed that has four posts, one at each corner. The posts hold up a frame that supports a big net that goes over the top of the bed. The netting keeps bugs and insects away from the person sleeping in the bed.

The 4-poster bed was originally used in places where there are lots of mosquitoes and other bugs that can spread diseases like malaria. When people sleep under the netting, they are protected from getting bitten by the bugs, which can carry the disease.

Nowadays, some people use 4-poster beds just because they think they look fancy and elegant. But in some parts of the world, they are still very important for protecting people from diseases that can be spread by insects.
