ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

525-line television system

Okay kiddo, so you know how you watch TV and the picture looks really nice and clear? Well, that's because of something called a television system.

A 525-line television system was a really popular system back in the day. Basically, the TV screen had 525 tiny lines on it that made up the picture. Each line was like a mini painting that made up the whole picture you see on the screen.

Now, each line was made up of even tinier dots called pixels. You can think of pixels like tiny little blocks that come together to make a picture. So, the more pixels you have, the clearer and more detailed the picture will be.

But, back when the 525-line television system was popular, they only had so much technology to work with. So, while the picture was still pretty good, it wasn't as clear and detailed as the pictures we see on TV today.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
