ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

6489 Golevka

Ok kiddo, so 6489 Golevka is a really big rock that's floating in space. It's called an asteroid and it's definitely not something you'd want to bump into because it's very big and could cause a lot of damage!

Scientists have been studying Golevka for a long time because they want to learn more about asteroids and how they move in space. They measure things like its size and shape, and even how fast it's moving.

Now, one thing that makes Golevka special is that in 1991, some very smart people sent a spacecraft to go study it up close! They called this spacecraft "Galileo" and it took lots of pictures and measurements.

One thing they found is that Golevka spins around really fast, like a top! And even though it's very big, it's mostly made of rock and metal.

So, why do scientists care so much about asteroids like Golevka? Well, they can tell us a lot about how our Solar System formed and what it's made of. Plus, if we ever need to protect our planet from a dangerous asteroid, we need to study them to know how to stop them from hitting Earth. But don't worry, we're safe for now!
