ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

99ers

Okay kiddo, so 99ers are people who used to have a job but now they don't have one for a really long time. This means they've been looking for work for 99 or more weeks but still haven't found anything.

See, when people lose their job, they can get something called unemployment benefits from the government. This helps them pay for things like food, clothes, and the roof over their head while they keep looking for another job.

But these benefits don't last forever - usually they only last for about 26 weeks (that's about 6 months). And sometimes, people just can't find a job before that time runs out.

That's where the 99ers come in. They've been looking for a job for a really long time - almost 2 years - and they still can't find one. So they don't have any money coming in to pay for the things they need.

It's really tough for them, and some people think that the government should do more to help them out. But other people think that the economy (that's the way we all buy and sell things) is just really tough right now, and it's hard for anyone to find a job.

So that's what 99ers are all about - people who have been looking for a job for a really long time and still can't find one.
