A Farewell to Alms

A farewell to alms is an expression used to say goodbye to a way of life that has ended or no longer works. It is usually used to describe an old system that used to provide people with money or other kinds of support, such as government welfare programs. The phrase comes from the idea that when people used to be supported by these programs, they would sometimes say “Farewell to Alms” as a way of expressing gratitude for the support they had received.
