ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

ACARS

ACARS is like a special texting system that airplanes use to talk to other airplanes and people on the ground. It stands for Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System. Basically, it's a way for pilots and airline companies to send messages about the plane's location, how much fuel it has, and anything else important to know during a flight.

The messages are sent through a special box in the airplane that's connected to the plane's computer. The box uses radio waves to send the message to a station on the ground, which then sends the message to the right person or office.

Some of the messages are automatic, like when the plane takes off, reaches a certain altitude, or lands. Others are sent by the pilot or crew to let people know if there's a problem or to ask for help.

Overall, the ACARS system helps keep everyone on the same page and makes sure that communication between planes, pilots, and ground crews is clear and efficient.
