ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

ALARP

ALARP stands for "As Low As Reasonably Practicable."

It's like when you want to do something, but you want to make sure you do it in the safest way possible. For example, maybe you want to ride your bike down a big hill. You could just jump on and go down without any protection, but that would be dangerous. Instead, you put on a helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads. You also make sure to check your brakes and make sure they work before you start.

ALARP is a similar idea, but for grown-up things. It means that you want to do something, but you also want to make sure it's done in the safest way possible. This might be something like working in a factory that uses dangerous machines. The company has to make sure that its workers are safe by using protective gear, training them properly, and making sure the machines are working correctly.

So, ALARP is all about making sure that whatever you're doing doesn't pose unnecessary risks to you or others, and taking steps to minimize those risks as much as possible.
