Abandoned Shipwrecks Act

Okay kiddo, let me tell you about the Abandoned Shipwrecks Act. Sometimes, really old boats and ships sink in the ocean and stay there for a long time. They're called shipwrecks. Usually, we're not allowed to just take things from these shipwrecks, because it's like taking something that doesn't belong to us.

But the Abandoned Shipwrecks Act is a law that says if a ship has been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for more than 100 years and no one has claimed it, some parts of it can belong to the state or federal government. The government can use these parts for things like education or research.

However, people still have to be careful when exploring shipwrecks because they can be dangerous and fragile. It's important to respect the history and significance of these old ships, even if they've been abandoned for a long time.
