Abnormal posturing is when your body moves in a way that is not normal or natural. You know how you can move your arms and legs whenever you want? Well, sometimes people's bodies move in weird ways without them wanting it to happen.
There are two types of abnormal posturing:
1. Decerebrate posturing: When a person's arms and legs stiffen out and their hands and feet twist inwards. This can happen because of a problem in the brainstem, which is the part of your brain that controls your basic functions like breathing and heart rate.
2. Decorticate posturing: When a person's arms and legs curl towards their body and their hands and feet turn inwards. This can happen because of a problem in the brain's cortex, which is the part of your brain responsible for things like thinking and feeling.
Abnormal posturing can be caused by many different things, like a head injury, a stroke, a brain infection, or a seizure. If you notice someone experiencing abnormal posturing, it's important to seek medical attention right away.
