Abolitionism in the United Kingdom was the movement to end the practice of slavery in the country. In the 1700s and 1800s, some people in the United Kingdom believed that slavery was wrong and that it should be stopped. Abolitionists worked to convince the people of the United Kingdom to pass laws making slavery illegal. In 1833, Parliament passed a law called the Slavery Abolition Act which completely abolished slavery in the United Kingdom. This law made it illegal to own, sell, or otherwise benefit from slaves. After this law was passed, slavery was abolished in the United Kingdom and all of the slaves were freed.
