Aboriginal Victorians

Aboriginal Victorians are people who are the original inhabitants of the state of Victoria, which is in southern Australia. They have been living in this region for thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans.

Aboriginal Victorians had their own unique culture, which included their own way of life, languages, and beliefs. They lived in harmony with nature and had a deep knowledge of the land they lived on. They used their resources sustainably and believed in caring for the environment.

However, when Europeans arrived in Australia, they brought with them their own culture and ideas which clashed with the traditional ways of Aboriginal Victorians. They also brought diseases to which the Indigenous population had no immunity. This led to a significant decrease in the Aboriginal population and a loss of traditional lands, culture, and languages.

Today, Aboriginal Victorians continue to face challenges due to colonization, including the loss of lands, cultural practices and language, and social and economic inequality. However, there is ongoing work to heal the wounds of the past and restore the cultures of Indigenous communities.
