Abraham Lincoln was the president of the United States from 1861 to 1865. During his time as president, he believed that slavery was wrong, and he worked to abolish it. He issued a law called the Emancipation Proclamation, which said that all enslaved people were free and should no longer be kept as slaves. After the Civil War ended, the Thirteenth Amendment was added to the US Constitution and outlawed slavery throughout the country. Abraham Lincoln is remembered for his commitment to ending slavery and promoting equality for all people.
