Abscopal effect

Alright kiddo, so the abscopal effect is a very special thing that happens in our body when we get treated for cancer. You know how when we get sick, we take medicine to make us better? Well, when we have cancer, the doctors give us special treatments to try and make the cancer go away.

Sometimes, when we get these treatments, they don't just work on the part of the body where the cancer is. They can also, in a way, tell our body to fight the cancer cells all over, even if they aren't being directly treated. This can make the cancer cells in those other parts of the body start to die, too!

This is called the abscopal effect, and it's like magic! Our body is so smart and powerful that it can use the treatment to help fight the cancer cells in other places, even when the treatment is only given in one spot. Isn't that amazing?
