ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Absolute angular momentum

Absolute angular momentum is how much something is spinning around. Imagine a toy top that you spin really fast. The faster it spins, the more angular momentum it has. The top's absolute angular momentum takes into account how fast it spins and how much stuff it has.

Now imagine you're holding the top and spinning around in a circle at the same time. Your body also has angular momentum, but it's different from the top's absolute angular momentum because it depends on your movement as well.

Scientists use absolute angular momentum to understand how things move in space. They use math and measurements to calculate absolute angular momentum and make predictions about how things will move in the future. It's like figuring out how much energy something has, but for spinning instead of movement.
