ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Absorption refrigerator

An absorption refrigerator is like a magic box that keeps things cold without using electricity. It is made up of three important parts: a generator, a condenser, and an evaporator.

Inside the generator, there are two chemicals called ammonia and hydrogen gas. When they are heated up, they start to move around and separate from each other. The ammonia gas rises to the top and the hydrogen gas stays at the bottom.

The ammonia gas then moves into the condenser which is like a big fan. The fan blows cool air over the ammonia gas, and it turns back into a liquid. This process makes the air around the fridge colder.

The liquid ammonia then moves into the evaporator which is like a bunch of tiny pipes inside the fridge. The liquid ammonia starts to evaporate back into a gas, and this process takes more heat away from the inside of the fridge, making it even colder.

Finally, the ammonia gas goes back to the generator to start the process all over again.

So basically, the absorption refrigerator takes heat energy from inside the fridge and moves it outside, which makes the inside of the fridge colder. It's kind of like a never-ending magic trick!
