Acromegaly

Acromegaly is a condition that happens when someone's body makes too much of a special hormone called growth hormone. This hormone helps your bones, muscles, and other parts of your body grow when you are a baby and child. But once you stop growing, your body doesn't need as much of it.

When someone has acromegaly, their body keeps making too much growth hormone even when they are all grown up. This can cause their bones in their face, hands, and feet to get bigger and spread out. Their body parts might look bigger than they should be. They might also have bigger organs inside their body, like their heart or liver, which isn't good.

People with acromegaly might notice that their hands and feet feel bigger or their rings or shoes don't fit anymore. They might also have headaches, feel tired all the time, or have trouble seeing.

Luckily, doctors can help people with acromegaly by giving them medicine or doing surgery to remove the part of the body that is making too much growth hormone. With the right treatment, people with acromegaly can live healthy lives and don't have to worry about their body growing too big.
