ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Adaptive memory

Adaptive memory is a way for our brain to remember things more easily. It works by taking the ideas and concepts we already know and adding new information to them. For example, let's say you're learning about dinosaurs. You might know some basic information like their shapes, sizes, and sounds. Adaptive memory helps us by remembering new things about dinosaurs faster by connecting that new information to stuff we already know. So when you look up information about a new type of dinosaur like the Stegosaurus, your brain is able to quickly remember the extra things you learn like the types of armor it had on its back and how it used that armor to protect itself. Your brain is adapting, or changing, the old information you knew to add new information and remember it more easily.
