Hi there! Today we're going to talk about Adar. Adar is a special month in the Jewish calendar. It usually falls in February or March, and it's a time when Jewish people celebrate a very happy holiday called Purim.
Now, Purim is a big deal because it celebrates a story from a long time ago when a queen named Esther saved all the Jewish people from an evil bad guy named Haman. During Purim, Jewish people read the story of Esther, dress up in costumes, give food and treats to their friends, and have a big feast.
But did you know that there are actually two Adars? Yup, there's Adar I and Adar II. And every few years, there's a special year called a leap year, where an extra month is added to the Jewish calendar to make sure the holidays fall in the right seasons. In a leap year, there's an Adar I and an Adar II, and Purim is celebrated in Adar II.
So when you hear someone talking about Adar, you can think about it as a super fun month where Jewish people celebrate Purim and all the great things that come with it. And in a leap year, there's even more Adar to celebrate in!
