ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Additive map

Hey there kiddo! Let me explain what an additive map is in a simple way.

An additive map is a way of combining things that you can "add" together. Let's say you have two apples, and you want to combine them. You can simply put them together to make a larger pile of apples. This is adding apples together, and they are now "1+1=2".

Now imagine you have a map that takes in two apples, and "adds" them together using a rule. This rule could be something like "cut them in half and put the pieces together". So if you gave the map two apples, it would cut each one in half and put the pieces together to make a pile of four halves.

This is an additive map - it takes two things and combines them using a rule that follows the idea of adding. It can be used for things other than apples too! For example, you could make an additive map for adding numbers together, or for adding colors together to make a new color.

So that's the basic idea of an additive map. It's a way of combining things using a rule that follows the idea of adding.
