ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Adelic group

An adelic group is like a group of toys. Imagine you have a box of toys that you like to play with. Some toys are small, like little cars, and some toys are big, like stuffed animals. You can pick and choose which toys to play with and you can put them together to make a new toy group.

Now think of these toys as numbers. Some numbers are small, like 1 or 2, and some numbers are big, like 100 or 1000. An adelic group is a way to put all of these numbers together in one group, just like how you put your toys together in one box.

But an adelic group is not just a random collection of numbers. Just like how you organize your toys by size or type, an adelic group has a specific structure to it. The group is made up of all the different ways you can put together the small and big numbers. You can add them or multiply them, and you can do this in any combination you want.

So an adelic group is like a box of toys, but with numbers instead. It's a way to organize all the different sizes and types of numbers in one group, and it has a specific structure to it that allows you to combine them in different ways.
