ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Adirondack lean-to

Okay kiddo, so imagine you're out in the woods on a camping trip. You've got your tent all set up, but then you notice some other people in the campsite next to you have something different. It's a little wooden shelter that they've built, called an Adirondack lean-to.

A lean-to is like a little house, but instead of having walls all the way around it, it only has three walls and a roof. That means you can look out at the trees and the sky, but you're protected from the rain and wind.

An Adirondack lean-to is a special kind of lean-to that was first used in the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. People would hike and camp there, and they needed a way to stay dry and warm at night. So they started building these lean-tos out of wood and bark.

Nowadays, you can still find Adirondack lean-tos in some campgrounds and parks. They're a fun and unique way to enjoy the outdoors, and they're really easy to set up. You just need some wood, a saw, and some nails or screws. If you're not up for building your own, you can also buy pre-made kits or rent them at some campsites.

So there you have it, kiddo – an Adirondack lean-to is like a little wooden house with three walls and a roof. It's a cozy and fun way to camp, and it's a big part of camping history in the Adirondack Mountains.
