ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Adult standards

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard grown-ups talking about "adult standards"? It might sound tricky, but it's actually pretty simple. You know how there are different rules and expectations for kids and grown-ups? Well, the rules and expectations for grown-ups are what we call "adult standards."

So, for example, grown-ups are expected to be responsible for themselves and make good choices. This means things like paying bills on time, going to work, and making sure they don't break any laws. There are consequences if they don't meet these expectations, like getting in trouble with the law or losing their job.

Grown-ups also have different social expectations. They are expected to be polite and respectful to others, even if they don't always agree with them. They don't throw temper tantrums or bully people, because that's not how grown-ups behave.

So basically, "adult standards" are just the set of expectations and rules that people have for grown-ups, based on the fact that they have more life experience and are responsible for themselves and others.
